Kentucky Repertory Theatre at Horse Cave's apprentice program has a significant impact on the education of college students making their initial forays into the world of professional theatre. Students from many different college and university theatre programs come to apprentice at KRT. These students gain hands-on training in the areas of acting, costuming, sound design, stage lighting, set construction, props, stage management, administration and box office to prepare them for a career in professional theatre.
Our apprentices have gone on to work in regional theatre, Broadway, television and film. Here is what some of them had to say:
"I was impressed and inspired by the passion and commitment of the entire staff - it's a work ethic and love of the art form that I carry with me even today."
- Tony Award-winner Marc Routh, producer of Stomp, The Producers and Hairspray.
"It was my experience as an apprentice...and the challenges of working on stage with Equity actors from New York and Los Angeles that convinced me to pursue a career in acting. That was 25 years ago. The career continues along with the challenges, and the friendships from that season remain some of my most cherished."
- Andy Stahl, actor in such Hollywood hits as The Patriot, October Sky and The Client.
